Reims Toussaint

I spent part of the Toussaint vacation in Reims (in Champagne) with my friend Lisa from Baltimore. We visited champagne producers and caves!

Mumm was by far the best visit, although Veuve Clicquot was interesting too...interesting to compare with Mumm at the end of the day. It seems to me that Veuve Clicquot sells most of their bottles of champagne purely because they're cool and cool stars drink it, whereas Mumm actually produces really good quality champagne, and that's why people choose to drink it. Nevertheless, it's important to keep in mind that despite how commercialized and prettified Veuve Clicquot is, they are (according to Mumm's guide) the 2nd international seller of champagne, Mumm coming in 3rd place.

The city of Reims (pronounced Rince with a nasal i) was very pretty to walk around, especially at night! If you go, though, do watch out for the non-stop pizza-hamburger-pasta place just down from the circle fountain...sloooow service. There are also quite a few little boutiques that have nice clothes and shoes but aren't too expensive!
The hotel we stayed at was the Suithotel Reims Centre. It was clean and cozy and had free internet! They were also doing a promotion, so we got a good deal on the room!
Also, if you do go to Reims, definitely check out the cathédrale! The inside and the outside are stunning! I dare say even better than Notre Dame de Paris...
